Dr Tanya Mead.
Tanya completed her medical training in South Africa. She then moved to the UK where she continued to practice while training to become a General Practitioner. In 2000 she passed the Royal College of General Practitioners entrance exams.
At this point, having become somewhat disillusioned with conventional medical practice, she took a break from medicine to raise 3 boisterous sons as a full-time mum. Having a strong desire to keep learning, she explored numerous alternative and complementary healing practices, both theoretically and experientially, educating herself on the benefits and limitations of these practices first hand.
Having moved first to Seattle and then to NZ during this time, she then became involved in researching the effects culture has on mental health and presented numerous cultural awareness courses to medical professionals across NZ.
Tanya eventually returned to full-time medicine with a goal of providing the most effective medical care to patients, while recognising their individual ideas, beliefs, and expectations and how this impacts their health. She then went on to train and qualify as a Psychiatrist, while also completing certificates in Integrative Psychiatry and EMDR. During her training she worked with children and adolescents, adults, and older adults. She has a special interest in trauma and the lasting effects on mental health, and general wellbeing.
Tanya is insightful, loves to learn and is willing to think outside the box when assessing and finding solutions to help her patients.
She continues to do inner work and experiences the positive consequences of a daily meditation practice.
